Matahuru Valley Walk

Located in the North Waikato (just a short drive from Te Kauwhata) the ‘Matahuru Valley Walk’ awaits your visit. You can be here in just over an hour from Auckland. Our slice of rural New Zealand offers you a special chance to walk through three working sheep and beef farms with amazing views of both the Waikato and the Hauraki Gulf.

The Matahuru Valley Walk is special. We now offer two packages - Either 1 or 2 night retreat. We realise some may not be able to get away for two nights, but still want all the special touches a private walk should have at an affordable price!

Tui Ridge is a comfortable secluded farmhouse with your walks either leaving straight from there or a short 5 minute drive down the valley. No packing your bags up to go to the next bunk house here! You can relax and follow your own timetable; have a leisurely breakfast and a relaxing read of your magazine before starting your walk at 10 - no problem.

We cater for a range of abilities and fitness levels. We can also offer several options for walkers - including a few shorter walks. We have an abundance of beautiful farmland, stunning views, several stands of native bush and of course the Matahuru Stream with a fabulous waterhole to have a dip in on your walk.

We look forward to welcoming you to our walk with fabulous food, stunning scenery and a chance to unwind and relax at our lovely farmhouse.

Three working sheep and beef farmers in North Waikato have recently diversified to offer a fully catered private walk. It gives tourists and walkers an authentic ‘agritourism’ experience. They’ve planted 75k natives over the past 4 years and it’s an example of using farmland in a sustainable, environmental way.

Solo Hikers

Here at Matahuru Valley Walk, we have noticed there are many solo walkers out there unable to book a private walk due to the minimum of 2 walkers often needed - so we have decided to offer this fantastic opportunity to come and enjoy the Matahuru Valley Walk and meet some new walking buddies at the same time!

Everything is included as it would normally be but you will be meeting like minded solo walkers.
